For this project, I was tasked with creating a poster of recipe that is significant to both my family and my own cultural heritage. Shepherd's Pie was a staple dinner recipe for my family throughout my childhood. I wanted to emphasize the individual ingredients, paying special attention to the historical significance of how that ingredient came to my plate, and how it was able to come to the plates of my ancestors in Ireland before me.  I chose a warm, earthy color palette, inspired by the Irish flag and the lush landscapes of Ireland. Greens evoke the rolling hills, while rich browns, sepia, and reds, represent wholesome ingredients such as potatoes and dairy. This combination not only highlights the beauty of Irish cuisine, but also creates a welcoming atmosphere inviting families to gather around the table.
For my typography, I chose a font that encapsulated traditional Gaelic scripts. I used this as the body copy and used this same typeface as the reference to shape my hand-drawn title, that I styled to look like the crust of a Shepherd’s Pie. When I was a child, my brothers and I would always fight over who got to eat the crusted cheese off the top of the tin foil that was used to cover the dish straight out of the oven. Our favorite part was peeling the foil off and watching as all the steam would gracefully rise all at once. I used this experience to shape the custom title, because it represents all the good memories that come flooding to my mind when I reminisce on the times this recipe was baked for my own family.
To conclude the project, I filmed a recipe video showcasing the process of preparing the dish.
