For this project, I was tasked with choosing a country, performing extensive research, and then designing a research booklet that reflects my findings in different forms of data visualization. I chose the country of Ireland because my family has a large Irish heritage, and I wanted to learn more about where our ancestors came from and how they lived their day-to-day life. I started by picking out my color palette and typefaces. I used several shades of green, but also oranges and crème colors that represent the Irish flag. For my typeface, I chose a scripted font taking inspiration from the Gaelic language, but one that was still legible and accessible at a smaller scale. I used a variety of different data visualization tactics to make sure the pages of information didn’t seem too repetitive. Some pages have illustrations of scenery, some have infographics, line graphs, bar graphs, timelines, etc.
